This country is faced with many problems, none of which can be solved easily or inexpensively. I’m going to name some of these problems, and for each one I’d like you to tell me whether you think the [Federal/National] government is spending too much money on it, too little money, or about the right amount. Improving and protecting the environment. Is the government spending too much, too little, or about the right amount on improving and protecting the environment? 0 = too much, 1 = about right, 2 = too little

Next, I am going to read you a list of [Federal/National] programs. For each one, I would like you to tell me whether you would like to see spending increased or decreased. Again suppose that, for each of the seven areas of government spending, the government had to choose between these three options: Increase spending and raise taxes for every adult in [Country] by [amount], keep spending and income tax about the same as now or cut spending and reduce taxes for every adult in [Country] by [amount] a year?
