Now I am going to mention various items of public expenditure. Could you please tell me if you believe that in your country it would be better to spend more or less on each of them: Health? 0 = spend less, 1 = spend more

This country is faced with many problems, none of which can be solved easily or inexpensively. I’m going to name some of these problems, and for each one I’d like you to tell me whether you think the [Federal/National] government is spending too much money on it, too little money, or about the right amount. How would you rate the amount of [Federal/National] spending on improving and protecting the nation’s health? 0 = too much, 1 = about right, 2 = too little

If you had a say in making up the [Federal/National] budget this year, which programs would you like to see increased and which reduced. Should [Federal/National] spending on health care [or National Health Service] be increased, decreased, or kept about the same? 0 = decrease, 1 = same, 2 = increase

Now I want to ask you which options you think would be best for you and your household. Again suppose that, for each of the seven areas of government spending, the government had to choose between these three options: Increase spending and raise taxes for every adult in [Country] by [amount], keep spending and income tax about the same as now or cut spending and reduce taxes for every adult in [Country] by [amount] a year? Health. 0 = cut spending and taxes, 1 = keep the same, 2 = increase spending and taxes

Suppose the government had to choose between three options on this list. Which do you think it should choose? 0 = reduce taxes or social insurance contributions and spend less on health care services, 1 = keep taxes and spending on health care services at the same level as now, 2 = increase taxes or social insurance contributions and spend more on health

In your opinion, to improve the quality of public health services in [Country], what should the government do? 0 = use better the money that it’s currently spending on health, 1 = both, 2 = spend more money on health, even if it has to raise taxes

Regarding each of the following, in your opinion, should the state spend more money, less money or to the same amount it spends now? Health. 0 = spend less, 1 = the same amount, 2 = spend more
