Now I am going to mention various items of public expenditure. Could you please tell me if you believe that in your country it would be better to spend more or less on each of them: Public security? 0 = spend less, 1 = spend more

Now I want to ask you which options you think would be best for you and your household. Again suppose that, for each of the seven areas of government spending, the government had to choose between these three options: Increase spending and raise taxes for every adult in [Country] by [amount], keep spending and income tax about the same as now or cut spending and reduce taxes for every adult in [Country] by [amount] a year? Police. 0 = cut spending and taxes, 1 = keep the same, 2 = increase spending and taxes

Next, I am going to read you a list of [Federal/National] programs. For each one, I would like you to tell me whether you would like to see spending increased or decreased. If you had a say in making up the [Federal/National] budget this year, which of the following programs would you like to see spending increased and for which would you like to see spending decreased? Dealing with crime? 0 = decreased, 1 = kept the same, 2 = increased

First, I would like to talk with you about some things people think about today. We are faced with many problems in this country, none of which can be solved easily or inexpensively. I’m going to name some of these problems, and for each one I’d like you to tell me whether you think we’re spending too much money on it, too little money, or about the right amount.
